Our website checker

What Nebula does, and how to stop it.

When someone asks for a free scorecard of a website, our checker visits that site the way a customer on a phone would. If it visited yours, this page explains what it looked at.

It identifies itself with this user agent:
Nebula/1.0 (+https://xorionsystems.com/bot)

One page, a few checks.

  • Your robots.txt, read before other page fetches.
  • The page someone asked about, as plain HTML: the first 2 MB, with up to 5 redirects.
  • Whether your site uses HTTPS and sends visitors to it.
  • A phone-speed test run by Google PageSpeed Insights, which loads your page from Google's side.
  • Your public Google Business Profile, looked up by the name the person typed.

Look, don't touch.

  • Click, scroll through menus, or close pop-ups.
  • Fill in or send any form.
  • Log in, or try to.
  • Download files or follow links to other sites.
  • Crawl your whole site. It only visits when a person asks, and reuses a recent result when the same check runs again.

Robots.txt or email. Either works.

Add two lines to your robots.txt

When it sees these, our checker does not load your pages or run the speed test. It still checks that your address answers over HTTPS, which reads no page content, and anyone can still look up your public Google listing by name.

Less than you'd think.

  • The score and the checks behind it, so the person who asked can see their scorecard again.
  • Google listing details only as long as needed to show the report, following Google's terms for that data.
